How to proceed

Clinical geneticist (optimal) or a commercial genetic laboratory. 1. A consultation with a clinical geneticist or urologist is recommended. 2. Blood draw. 3. Laboratory DNA analysis (4–5 months). 4. Consultation of the result with a geneticist — interpretation and recommendations for next steps.

What the test detects

Hereditary mutations in genes associated with increased risk of prostate cancer. The panel genetic examination analyzes risk genes that may predispose to the hereditary form of prostate cancer.

Where it's available

GHC Genetics (Prague 8). Other clinical genetics offices may offer similar examinations.

Limits and caveats

The result indicates probability, not a diagnosis. A negative result does not rule out the risk of prostate cancer. Interpretation should take place with a clinical geneticist, who will assess overall risk including family history and other factors.
